During the days of April 27th to 28th, 2025, the board members of our company made a working trip to the city of Berbera.
The leaders of Hormuud paid a brief visit to the national laboratory, which operates under the Somaliland Quality Control Agency.
The visit to the laboratory, which was of significant importance, helped us discover that the lab plays a vital role for the people of Somaliland. There, we met young professionals who clearly possess extensive knowledge and expertise in the various operations of the lab.
The laboratory monitors the quality and safety of all imports into the country, especially items that directly impact public health. However, its operations are currently limited to the port of Berbera and do not yet cover other entry points such as Wajaale, Zeila, and Erigabo/Maydh.
Additionally, the laboratory plays an essential role in inspecting the quality of products that we, as a nation, export abroad.
We, as Hormuud Fishing, agreed to establish a close working relationship with both the lab staff and the leadership of the Quality Control Agency.
On another note, we urge the Somaliland government to empower the lab so that it can expand its important national duties.
